It uses the tools and implements of ancient architectural craftsmen symbolically to teach character, moral values, and self-improvement. Its singular purpose is to make good men better. Freemasonry’s bonds of friendship, compassion, and brotherly love have transcended centuries, surviving even the most divisive conflicts. What Do Freemasons Do?
Freemasonry is more than a fraternity; it’s a way of life that inspires members to become better men, husbands, fathers, and citizens. The Masonic experience emphasizes personal growth, moral character, and a lifelong commitment to helping others. Within the Lodge, Freemasons form deep fraternal bonds with men who share similar goals and values, building friendships that last a lifetime. Beyond individual development, Freemasonry is deeply rooted in philanthropy and service. Freemasons in North America contribute over two million dollars a day to charitable causes, much of which directly benefits those outside the Fraternity. Masonic organizations support vast philanthropic initiatives, such as Shriners Hospitals for Children, which provide free care to burned and orthopedically impaired children, and the Scottish Rite's Childhood Language Disorder Clinics, which operate nationwide. Grottoes International, affectionately known as "Masons' Playground," focuses on providing dental care to special needs children, often bringing smiles and toothbrushes to community events. Freemasons also support scholarships, engage in public service activities, and unite their families in meaningful social and recreational events.
